Gate valve
A gate valve is a type of valve that uses a gate (or wedge) as its closing mechanism. The gate's movement is perpendicular to the flow direction. Gate valves are typically used for either fully open or fully closed positions, and are unsuitable for throttling or flow regulation. Sealing is achieved by contact between the gate and valve seat. The sealing surfaces are often hard-faced with a wear-resistant metal such as 1Cr13, STL6, or stainless steel. Gates can be rigid or flexible, leading to a corresponding classification of gate valves as either rigid or flexible gate valves.
