Check valve

A check valve is a valve in which the closing member is a circular valve disc that relies on its own weight and the pressure of the medium to prevent the backflow of the medium. It is an automatic valve, also known as a non-return valve, one-way valve, reflux valve, or isolation valve. The valve disc movement is divided into lift type and swing type. The lift type check valve is similar in structure to a globe valve, except that it lacks the valve stem that drives the valve disc. The medium flows from the inlet (The swing type check valve has an inclined valve disc that rotates around an axis. Its working principle is similar to the lift type check valve. Check valves are commonly used as foot valves in pumping systems to prevent water backflow. Check valves combined with globe valves can provide safe isolation. Disadvantages include high resistance and poor sealing when closed.
